Bible Encounter LIVE!

Aug 5, 2026    Bishop Steve Yates

Bishop led a Bible study session focused on the Book of Revelation, emphasizing that context determines meaning and explaining that it is a letter written to seven churches. The discussion covered why John was exiled to Patmos and the historical context of early Christianity, including the Arian controversy about Jesus's nature.

Bishop outlined a three-part structure for understanding Revelation:

1. The introduction explaining the situation

2.The middle section describing persecution

3. The end revealing Christ's reign.

The session included interactive elements where participants shared insights about the seven spirits around God's throne and the reasons for John's exile.

Bishop further emphasized its historical context and the persecution faced by early Christian churches. The discussion covered the seven churches mentioned in Revelation, including Ephesus, Smyrna, and Philadelphia, highlighting how these churches were suffering under Roman persecution, particularly during Emperor Domitian's reign from AD 81-96. Bishop explained that Revelation was written as encouragement for Christians enduring persecution, including martyrdom, and stressed the importance of understanding context to properly interpret the text.

The study concluded with a discussion of modern-day persecution and the need for Christians to remain bold in their faith, with participants being assigned homework to locate the seven churches mentioned in Revelation on modern maps.

Homework Assignment:
